For year round interest in your garden why not
grow a variety of plants which will
"come and go" as the seasons change.
All evergreens or all herbaceous plants
will only give a limited display,
so if you can put in the "bones" of your design using
a mix of evergreen and deciduous
trees and shrubs and then fill in with a good range
of herbaceous perennials there should always be
something of interest to see.

Underplanting with bulbs and adding summer/winter bedding will also allow you to ring the changes and experiment with colour. You can fill the odd gaps that always seem to appear in the borders with annuals or perennials planted in pots. Don't forget the feeding and dead-heading and you'll be well rewarded!

ABOUT MY NURSERY

Just a few years ago I set up my small but very productive nursery. I can now offer a wide range of plants from herbaceous perennials, shrubs and potted bulbs to summer and winter bedding plants. I grow in a traditional way without the over-use of chemicals and heat so that they are as hardy as possible. My aim is for strong healthy plants that will continue to prosper and grow when you plant them in your own garden. Pot sizes vary from 13cm to 3-4lt and all my stock is reasonably priced.

While you visit you are welcome to wander round the rest of my garden where you'll be able to see many of the plants I have for sale growing in a border situation.....there's nothing like seeing a plant growing in the ground to appreciate how it will look in your own space.

My soil is mostly heavy clay, though over the years I've tried to improve it with the addition of compost and sand, and I have to cope with very wet areas as well as soil that dries out almost completely in summer. The garden can also be subject to very strong winds, so if a plant does well here I know it will grow anywhere! The weeds do well.

As I'm constantly sowing and growing, the stock changes throughout the year. I also like to offer a few "unusual and interesting" plants, such as the curious Morina Longifolia and a lovely Iris Setosa.
